Ancient Burying Ground

These two came from the same burying ground in Beverly, Massachusetts, that just so happens to be neighbors with a pre-school. It's called the Ancient Burying Ground, and it's a stones throw from Montserrat College of Art, which was my intended destination. A good find. I was amazed at both finds; a playground at one end, and a bedroom(sic) at the other.

This one was taken quite some time ago. Considering the recent snowfall, I'm quite sure that Mr. Roberts has more than cold feet.

Bye,Bye, B.B.

Bye, Bye, B.B. - Here are 3, works in progress, variations of the same stone. Lately, I've been playing with B&W on my pieces. In the past I've avoided B&W like the plaque, but now I've come to appreciate the additional emotion whether ghoulish, suspenseful or mournful, that is emphasized by the reduction of all color. I don't wish to get in the habit of it, but I'll continue to be more open minded about change :)

New York, New York

Here's an oldie but goodie. It's a piece that I shot in Old Calvary Cemetery, Queens, New York. Many of my ancestors are interred in this cemetery. It's the cemetery that aroused my passion in photography; especially, cemetery photography. With about 3 million burials, it has the largest number of interments of any cemetery in the United States; it is also one of the oldest cemeteries in the United States.
It's quite a place, and should you ever have the opportunity to visit it, take it and have a great time.

With Old Friends

I've stopped by this place several times over the past years. It's Milford Cemetery, Milford, Pennsylvania. It's a multi-level terrain with a whole lot of character if you're will to root it out. It's also one of my few black & white pieces. I'm doing more in B&W now, because, sometimes it just works better for me.

Dove Descending

One final piece for this evening. Dove Descending was captured in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Rochester, NY. My daughter attended Rochester Institute of Technology, so the time spent visiting afforded me the opportunity of tripping though the local cemeteries.

Godzilla and Glasses

I'll occasionally come across a burial site adorned with the memorabilia of a life. They speak volumes. This capture is from Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Samuel, Alone and Blue

Another of local interest as it was captured in the Cove Hill/Lanesville Cemetery, Gloucester, Massachusetts. For me, the interest lay in the layered lighting. It's actually a great little cemetery hidden at the backend of a short road behind houses along the Atlantic Ocean.

Farewell Dear Friend

If I may say so myself, another fine composition from the good old days. Farewell Dear Friend was captured with my, now retired, Olympus point & shoot in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. It's brimming with emotion; and I should like to think, typical of my body of work. Thanks for looking.

A Sled Riding We Will Go

If there's a photo that delivers me to the doorstep of my youth, it would be this one. The merry winters of days gone by were actually fun. As the maintenance men shoveled out the schools of my youth, I went sled riding down a rather long and adventurous hill by the Whitestone Bridge. Sledder beware was the word on the street, as it ended at the waters edge. Thankfully, I never combined sled riding with snorkeling. 
There was also a fine piece of real estate on 21st Ave. and 149th Street. It was short and sweet and steep! And close enough to home for lunch and a little TV.

Pink and Stone

If ever you get the opportunity to visit the Bronx, make the effort to visit Woodlawn Cemetery. You won't believe your eyes. And do make sure that you bring a toga as there are so many mausoleums that you'll come to believe your in the middle of ancient Rome itself.

Mrs. Whipple of Ipswich

I'd like you all to meet Mrs. Whipple of Ipswich. She resides in South End Cemetery. One problem though. The stone was leaning against the gate so I'm not sure as to where Mrs. Whipple is actually buried. A major problem in old cemeteries.
It's one of my black and white pieces. Enjoy.

Me and My Duck

Notice anything strange about this piece? Check the title and then take another look. Ha! I took this one quite some time ago in Old North Burying Ground in Ipswich, Ma. I was totally focused on the aged stone on a blue background with a yellow trimmed window, and that's all. I had not noticed my little friend until I loaded the capture on my computer for processing.
